Soil Sampling & Lab Tests
Soil samples should be sent directly to the Soil & Forage Lab. The St. Croix County Extension Office is no longer mailing them. Forms and instructions can be found at UW Soil & Forage Analysis Lab.
Using a soil test can:
- can save you money on fertilizer by customizing your fertilizer applications to the your specific soil and the plants or crops you will be growing
- help you optimize the growth of your plants by identifying any nutrient deficiencies
- can minimize the effects of fertilizing on the natural environment by helping you avoid fertilizer application in excess of what is needed. Excess fertilizer can pollute your groundwater and our community lakes and streams.
Note : Make sure you take a composite sample of 10 samples to put in one test bag to get an average level of soil fertility.
